Tony stares at Balder too because that’s really the last thing he ever expected to see and he assumes he’s going to have to accept that there’s something wrong with all the guys raised by Odin.
But Balder would have to wait because all of Tony’s attention was still on Loki and it was like a punch to the stomach because it felt like Loki was only upset because he was human and weaker and his concern was insulting.
“…You don’t think I could take Steve? What? You think he’d kill me or something? Hell no. He’s my teammate and a constant do-gooder. He wouldn’t kill me. He’d probably punch me to vent and then feel even for whatever’s butthurting him and move on. YOU however, he might not have a problem with actually trying to kill. You’re still the one I’m worried about.”
Loki seethed, twitching, fighting the reflex to turn around, grab Tony by the throat and throw him out the window again to show him just how mortal he was. He spun around, but kept his hands fisted by his sides for the moment.
“Don’t be a vain idiot. You’re mortal. You’re breakable. I’m immortal. Get over it. Your life span is already too short and-“
Biting his tongue, he kept back ‘your life span is already too short and you’re already going to let death claim you and leave me sooner than I wish.’ Even if Tony stayed safe, his life would last another fifty years maybe, leaving Loki to have to figure out how to be alone again for an eternity after he was gone. That wasn’t something that Loki was going to look for ways to rush.
